Guiding Movement with Carpet Tiles: Cheltenham Office Flooring

As our client prepared to move into a larger office in Cheltenham, they needed a flooring solution that could grow with their team. With a new floor plan offering collaborative zones, additional meeting spaces and a fully reimagined breakout area, we were invited by office design and build specialists, Gravity Office Interiors, to bring the vision to life with flooring that shapes how people move and interact.

The Challenge: Creating Structure in an Open Plan Office

An open plan office design is great for collaboration, but without clear boundaries, it can quickly feel noisy, unfocused and hard to navigate. Our client needed a space that encouraged connection while still providing order and clarity.

Working alongside the appointed fit out contractors, we knew the flooring had to deliver several key outcomes:

• Help structure the space by defining walkways, meeting areas, desks and breakout zones without building walls or disrupting the open plan design.
• Support wayfinding so staff and visitors could intuitively understand how to move through the office.
• Introduce warmth and personality, tying into the design vision created by Gravity.
• Meet the practical demands of different work areas, from heavy foot traffic to spaces that require easier cleaning.

With a mix of meeting rooms, desk space and a brand new kitchen/breakout area, the flooring had some work to do.

The Solution: Zoning and Flow Through Flooring

By combining carpet tiles and vinyl flooring, we delivered a scheme that guides movement, defines space and improves the office experience.

Zoning with Carpet Tiles

Carpet tiles were installed throughout the main office to subtly divide the open plan layout into people-friendly zones. Through strategic use of colour, patterns and texture, we created natural walkways and visually distinct desk and meeting areas. The result is a space that feels open yet structured, where staff can navigate intuitively and enjoy a sense of order. And because the carpet tiles are modular, the layout can evolve as the team grows or changes.

Wayfinding Through Flooring

Rather than rely on signs or partitions, the flooring itself acts as a navigational tool. Subtle contrasts between tile ranges clearly indicate circulation routes, creating a logical, effortless flow from one work area to another.

Wood-Effect Vinyl Flooring

The kitchen and breakout areas required a visually distinct, durable surface. Wood-effect vinyl was the perfect solution, combining warmth, easy cleaning and resilience against daily use. These areas now feel welcoming and practical, supporting social interaction and relaxed work moments while maintaining the high standard expected in a modern office.
