Worcester Flooring: Zoning and Wayfinding with Carpet Tiles

A new office fit out is the perfect opportunity to rethink how your space works for your people. For this project, the focus was on optimising the workplace through creating zoning, and the office flooring played a starring role. Growing businesses are increasingly looking at how subtle interventions, like different flooring finishes, can work beyond their functionality and this project is a perfect example of how it can guide movement, define work areas and even support company culture.

The Challenge: Creating Company Culture with Office Flooring

This Worcestershire-based confectionery brand was undergoing a full office fit out, with a clear vision to build a space that better supported their people. We were brought in by the main contractors to deliver the office flooring; a deceptively simple element that would play a key role in shaping how the office looked, felt and functioned.

The client wanted their workplace to support their different ways of working, with defined zones for collaboration and quieter areas for focus. The office floors would be central to creating that natural separation without relying on building walls or partitions.

Alongside function, the brand’s playful personality needed to shine through. Pops of colour and creative design touches were essential to capture their identity as a confectionery brand, while still delivering a practical, comfortable workplace. The challenge was finding that balance: culture, functionality and brand expression, all built from the ground up.

The Solution: Commercial Carpet Tiles

Working closely with the main fit out contractors, our role was to bring the flooring vision to life. Working from the designer’s brief, we translated their creative plans into a beautiful flooring solution.

While it might sound straightforward, the right flooring choices would set the tone for the entire office – guiding movement, supporting different workstyles, and weaving in the client’s playful brand identity.

Wayfinding & Zoning: Follow the Tiles

Flooring became a natural wayfinding tool, guiding movement instinctively throughout the workplace without the need for signage or physical walls. Different carpet tiles were used to subtly zone the office into distinct areas, helping the team instinctively navigate between collaboration zones, focused desks and social spaces.

Feet Meet Function

The open-plan kitchen is the social hub of the office, so it needed commercial kitchen flooring that could handle heavy footfall and connect to the rest of the space. A durable, easy-to-clean finish was chosen to clearly mark out the kitchen zone, separating it visually and practically from the work areas around it.

Flooring Acoustics

Flooring also played a key role in supporting acoustics. Softer materials were introduced in huddle spaces to absorb noise and keep conversations contained, creating a comfortable environment for quick team discussions without disturbing nearby colleagues.

From guiding footsteps to quietening conversations, the flooring in this Worcestershire office shows how even simple design choices can have a big impact on the way people work, move, and feel in their space.
